Research work

Prof. Daniel Offen work focuses on the study of extracellular vesicles secreted from mesenchymal stromal cells. Throughout his career, he has conducted extensive research on the impact of these cells in various disease models. One of his significant breakthroughs is the demonstration of how extracellular vesicles loaded with proteins or RNA molecules can enhance the beneficial effects of extracellular vesicles. With an impressive track record, Prof. Offen has contributed to over 200 publications that have garnered more than 16,000 citations, showcasing the profound impact of his research on the scientific community (H index 73). Beyond his academic achievements, Prof. Offen is also a co-inventor of more than three dozen patents, some of which have served as the foundation for successful start-up companies. Notably, he played a key role in the establishment of "Brainstorm Cell Therapeutics", a company focused on developing advanced technologies based on adult stem cells for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases (completed Phase III in ALS patients). Additionally, his laboratory's discoveries have been licensed for addressing neuronal indications, utilizing exosomes to tackle conditions like spinal cord injury (NurExone) and reducing autism symptoms (Stem Cell Medicine).
