SCRM student scholarships and programs
The SCRM MD-PhD program for excellence in regenerative medicine research
A list of laboratories in the field of regenerative medicine which are interested in supervising MD-PhD students can be found here.
In a world where medicine, science, and technology are advancing rapidly, the integration of these disciplines is of great importance. The MD/PhD program offers a combined training curriculum which leads to both the MD and the PhD degrees. The program's objective is to train students for careers in medicine and research.
The physician-scientists have a unique role in bridging the gap between science and medicine. The MD/PhD students are involved in translational research, which is a process that brings bench top research to bedside therapeutics. The ability to treat patients and perform research gives a unique skill set wherein as a scientist you can draw on clinical experiences to design research hypothesis, and as a clinician implement your experimental findings to the patient population you treat.
Regenerative medicine, an interdisciplinary field that applies basic life science and engineering principles to promote regeneration, can potentially restore diseased and injured tissues and whole organs. This field brings together many research areas such as: biology, tissue engineering, gene and cell therapy, and computer science. The MD/PhD program specializing in regenerative medicine offers interdisciplinary expertise in wide research fields.
This specific program enables to join research in a variety of laboratories, in different faculties: Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, George S. Wise Faculty of Life Sciences, Department of Biomedical Engineering at the Iby and Aladar Fleischman Faculty of Engineering, Sagol school for neuroscience and the Raymond & Beverly Sackler Faculty of Exact Sciences.
Curriculum, Eligibility and Registration:
The program is designed for outstanding students. The program's Syllabus, PhD thesis requirements, duration, eligibility, and registration is in accordance with the MD/PhD program at the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences.
Stipend
During their PhD studies, students receive an increased living stipend for outstanding PhD candidates. Upon returning to their clinical studies, tuition will be paid by the faculty.
