Stem Cell & Regenerative Medicine
Dr. Lior Mayo is an Assistant Professor at the Shmunis School of Biomedicine and Cancer Research, a Sagol School of Neuroscience member, and heads the Research Hub in Immunity and Inflammation. Mayo has published in top journals, including Cell, Science, Nature Medicine, Nature Neuroscience, Brain, and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), and received several prizes for his research achievements, including the "Transition Award" for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, the "Gesher award" for Academic Excellence in the field of Cancer Research, the Neufeld Award for the most outstanding and original National U.S.-Israel Binational Science Foundation-supported project in the health sciences, and the Dr. Philip Moskowitz prize for Excellence in Autoimmunity form the Colton foundation.
Dr. Mayo's team strives to understand the underlying mechanisms that drive neurologic disorders (from autoimmune and degenerative diseases to cancer) and translates that knowledge into meaningful medical advances. In particular, we study how the interactions between the immune system, brain cells, and the unique metabolic landscape of the central nervous system control the progression of diseases such as Multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, and brain tumors.
