Stem Cell & Regenerative Medicine

Research work

Omri Wurtzel is a senior lecturer in the George S. Wise Faculty of Life Sciences at Tel Aviv University. Omri studied medicine at Tel Aviv University, and completed his PhD at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rotem Sorek's lab. He then did a postdoc at the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research of MIT. There, he studied regeneration and stem cell regulation using the planarian system. In 2018, Omri opened his lab at Tel Aviv University. The lab focuses on whole-body regeneration, using highly regenerative model organisms, by combining gene function analysis, genomics, and microscopy. Major interests of the lab include studying transcriptional regulation and cell fate decisions in regeneration, and the induction of tissue growth following injuries. Omri is a Zuckerman Faculty Scholar and is a recipient of competitive research grants, including an ERC starting grant.
